What to pay when getting a new bike - MSRP is not valid

#1 Unread post by M109R »

Does anyone know how to find what a reasonable purchase price for a new bike is? I want to buy a 2006 Honda VTX1300 C and I can't get a quote from any dealer. They all say, "Come in with a quote from another dealer and we will beat it by $200...." Catch 22 no one will give you a quote!!

Very frustrating to do competitive shopping!!

Thanks!

Make something up. "Dealer Y across town told me *amount you want to pay*. Can you take $200 of of THAT? If not, I'll just get in my car and go back there..."

They're offering you $200 off a $10k bike? They should be throwing in a jacket helmet and other discounts as well to make that worth it.

Problem is they want the sales persons name so they can call him to verify. I think this is BS because if they did call why wouldn't the other sales person just low ball him to scare him away.

Any other tatics?

Yeah. Tell them to lick Dave and walk away. The dealer you're dealing with sounds fishy to me. Find another dealer.

I would go into the dealership and tell them that you'll be checking with several other dealers and that you'll go with the one that gives you the best price upfront, they get one chance to get your business. Of course this is BS and will give you starting point that will hopefully be less than MSRP.

Any good sites that you recommend I check?

The only one I found was a dealer in MO that others said low ball the web advertising for bait and switch tatics. Their advertised prices were lower than what I thought I could get the bike from negotiating.
