Then the limit should be 75.

Most people drive a certain speed based on the road conditions. A few people drive seriously faster or slower... and they are dangerous and should be stopped... but whenever most people are violating the law you know there is an artificial problem being created.

Personally, I rarely drive/ride a fixed speed over or under. I just look for the open spots where traffic isn't bunched up and drive at a speed that keeps me there with a nice window around me. That may be 85 or 55, I don't much care. Of course, that's the utopian dream... I'm as likely nowadays to be riding between lines of crawling cars doing 35-45 while they are doing 10-15. My goal is mostly just keeping safe so I'm usually pretty proactive. I rarely give anyone a chance to tailgate or cut me off... I'm either in another lane or out of their way before they are within 200 feet of me.

When traffic is clear 80-85 is pretty common on some of the roads I drive/ride though. It's one of those "happy medium" speeds... not super fast, but not a waste of time either. I can usually find a bubble with no cars in it and hummmmm along at 10,500RPM enjoying the scenery slide by.... kinda pleasant.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

I don't know if the glock sticker thing happens as described... I just know that there have been multiple independent reports of it happening. And, truth be told, my larger point was that stickers are undesirable because they cause dumb people to make assumptions. An HRC sticker might tell someone, "This person's a hippie freak I bet I can cop some weed from their car." At that point, it doesn't matter whether they like weed or like to arrest people for having weed... damage is done.

Anyway, assuming the person is stopped and searched, once you have the gun, the drugs, or whatever, you have an arrest (which in its own right is a punishment most people want to avoid), and most perps don't argue that their rights were violated by the search when it goes to court. Most perps plea bargain.

im not saying it doesnt happen either, what im saying is that its wrong and that officers and troopers and sheriffs and all the like should be 100% objective and should not be pulling people over becuase of sticker, it may be happening still, but not often and its till wrong.

As for the perps, if they have a halfway decent lawyer then they should argue, cause those kind of searches are very illegeal, and in turn would invalidate the arrest and any charges becuase the starting point (the search) and the arresst are both not supposed to happen.

Especially if the left lane is totally clear
Where do you live because everyone on a normal day by me is going atleast going 10mph over the speed limit and most go 15 over, speed limit is 55 btw. Even if you are in the middle lane, if you can mover over one lane just to let the guy go, what is wrong with that? I move over is someone is coming up a lot faster than me. I doubt you have a lot of people tailgate you when the lane to the left is open to them. If the lane isn't open, I would be surprised they won't pass on the right. It is fairly common now.

Diez, I'm going to go out on a limb here.

I agree with you in some respects...however remember even at 75, most of these people are not driving safely. They have one car or less gap between the car in front, they are distracted, eating, or talking on the phone...with every increase of speed there is required a significant increase of reaction time. So theoretically, when they bump speed limits up from 55 to 75, cars should space themselves several more vehicle-lengths (or 'seconds') apart.

They don't. And until people in general start acting responsibly and driving safely, I can never endorse increase of traffic speeds to those extremes except out on the open road on the interstate. Not inner-city freeways.

Hey, in a perfect world, we would have digital speed signs that adjusted hourly based on traffic conditions and congestion, allowing freeways that are light and clear to cruise at 85 and bring traffic jams down to a safe 45.

The accidents and deaths from accidents in this country is staggering. And you want them to go faster? That's not a good idea. People are too stupid to think for themselves and have consideration for others and I'm sorry, they NEED to be regulated and punished when they disobey.

Its common here...people just think they have something to prove. They want to bully others just because they think their poo don't stink ;)
