Creating MC parking spaces

Compact car parking sucks. People can't drive well enough to park in a normal spot half the time, and now you are going to shrink the target. What's next, 4" wide urinals because men really should be able to aim that well and it allows you to get four urinals into the space previously taken by three?

I like the curbed off parking area idea ... with a little sign or motorcycle stenciled on the concrete.

I dont see the difference between a truck and an SUV...you just have more cargo space and less passenger space. Still a gas hog, still need to operate it differently (more responsibly) than a sedan. Still takes up too much space

I hate urinals. If I wanted to use the bathroom out in the open with a bunch of other people standing around me I'd just go outside.

I'm interning at a civil firm right now and I've never come across a motorcycle parking area. The guy working next to me (who has a new R1) doesn't have any idea how to designate such an area either. Now I'm curious to know how to call it out. You're designing it on AutoCAD right?

We have a designated MC parking area where I work.
It is a concrete pad about 10 - 12 feet deep next to the building.
It has straight striped lines about 42" apart and there are about 30 spaces total.
It is quite obvious what it is for.

Don't know how to designate on a blueprint though

I don't have a problem with you lumping trucks and SUVs together, but don't punish somebody just because they have different needs when choosing a car. The bigger vehicles require more gas, but are infinitely more practical.

Motorcycles on the other hand are in a totally different category. More places need to start incorporating MC parking lots. I don't think it would be too hard to figure out what MC stands for.

i like the picture idea. a graphic of a motorcycle and lines to designate spaces so you dont have people parking too close or blocking others from parking.

Well from a practical standpoint it makes sense to put small cars up front and big ones in back.

Putting all the compact cars up front you can fit more people closer to the building than if you have them spread out for all cars all the way to the back?. Dunno...I own an SUV and it doesnt bother me.

I think they should put an acre of green grass between the parking lot and the entrance you lazy bastards!!!

(PS in italy we just park on the sidewalk, right next to the entrance door)

From an objective standpoint,

Designated MC parking spaces would be most practical in areas like Southern CA where the weather is almost always bike-friendly. Also, SoCal has an active bike culture so cars would probably be happier if we didnt take up an entire space.

In other areas, I'm not exactly sure, it really depends on how many cars and bikes there are.

... on a lighter note...

Are you considering handicapped MC spaces? Because in that case, Yamaha blue placards look good...

And don't forget the wheel chair accessible ramps.
