MSRP price normal for a dealer

The addage is true, the dealership doesn't make much money selling the bike, but they make a lot on selling service and extra parts afterwards, so if you prove you'll come back again and again, they'll do their best to make you happy.
this is what I am hoping by making a couple visits to the same ducati dealer before I buy. If I keep coming back they may think that I am really interested but trying to make the right decision and maybe they will give me a good deal??? Although when I buy my bike I will be buying all the "gear" along with it lol.

Getting a Quote

I'm interested in buying a VTX 1300C MSRP $9,699. I went to one dealer who had one on the floor for $8,699. So what is the real reasonable price of this bike???? How do you get a quote out of a sales person???

They all say, "Come in with a quote from another dealer and we will beat it by $200...." Catch 22 no one will give you a quote!!

Very frustrating to do competitive shopping!!

here is the way it works::: the dealer orders a certain amount of bikes 6 months before they are shipped to the dealer, they are purchaced on a consignment meaning he don't pay for them until he sells them, the more number of a certain type of bike he orders the dealer gets the bike for a lower price, but, the longer the time the bike sits in the dealers showroom, the dealers price of the bike goes up. If Dealer "A" ordered 200 VTX1300's and Dealer "B" ordered 25 VTX1300's then Dealer "A" is more desperate to sell the bike, the quicker he sells it the more profit he makes. The best time to buy a new bike is early in the year, February thru March just when the new bikes arrive, before they are in demand and everybody wants one, or another good time is late in the summer, August thru September you can purchace the left-over bikes that nobody wants that the dealer has an overstock. The dealer makes between a 25 to 35% profit on bikes. I know for a fact one bike, The Yamaha 650 V Star the dealers cost is $3829

Great point on the waiting to get a better price. My big road trip isn't until end of August so I could easily get by with renting a Vrod at Eagle Riders until then. Only $135 a pop/day.

Plus last night looked at the M109R and think it rocks. 2007 models should be appearing soon at the dealers to give me a break on the 2006 blue one I want.

go to cyclebuy.com and purchase their information. Take that to the dealer. Once you've negotiated thier price, pull it out and note thier actual cost and their rollback. See thier tone change immediatly.

Just kidding, looks great, wish I had used it.

Still think I got a good deal on my M109R anyways but will tell my friends who are looking to check it out.
