Size difference between a HD Sportster 883 and a 1200??

#1 Unread post by Andy G »

Are the physical dimensions of the 883 and the 1200 bikes the same? I am a bigger guy (6'4" tall) and can't afford anything over and above a Sportster. I'm thinking of getting an 883 and having the shop bore it over to the 1200 specs...but only if the frames are the same.

Thanks!
Andy

Both bikes, in the case of the Roadster models, are pretty well the same dimensionally. The 1200R is actually a couple of pounds lighter than the 883R.

I would recommend not boring out an 883 but to buy the 1200 instead. Probably cheaper in the long run.

I've ridden most of the Sportster models and would definately take the 1200 over the 883. The 1200 really pulls well at the low end.
There is no such thing as a bad motorcycle.

I agree, spend the extra money and get a 1200... OR... look at something completly different and check out the Buell :) You won't be sorry with a Buell, trust me!

Yea, the sportster 1200 is the way to go, I have a Buell XB12S thats basicly a modified sportster engine in a sportsbike frame but I like it alot, very fun ride.

(Basicly do you like cruisers or sportsbikes better?)

If I remember correctly, buying the 883 and the Screaming Eagle 1200 kit and having it installed is in fact cheaper than buying the 1200 in the first place. Something to do with the demand being much lower on the 883 and Harley's pricing schemes. But I could be wrong, so check it out.

You are correct. It's only about 1000 bucks for the conversion. Compare that to the same trim level in the 1200 and you'll see it's quite a bit cheaper (2k or so, depending on bike).

Hey MotoF150...STFU.

The Suzuki DRZ400S has more horsepower and torque than a Harley 883, and I rode the 1200 Sportster and it didn't impress me, it was S---L---O----W----------
