Swingsets Leading Cause of Child Death

#1 Unread post by CNF2002 »

Or so some school districts would have you believe. Tucson (where I used to live for a few years in fact) recently eliminated swing-sets from their playgrounds. Why? Because children may be injured.

Other districts are following suit and replacing traditional playground equipment (ladders/slides/monkeybars/see-saws) with friendlier, safer, heavily padded equipment.

I don't know why they are concerned, since they are already lobbying to eliminate recess altogether, wouldn't that solve the problem?

Here's a thought...lets just keep our kids inside. Sun is dangerous. We should wrap them in bubblewrap and stick them in pillow-padded classrooms with rubber pencils and paper with rounded edges to prevent deadly papercuts.

I can't wait for this generation to grow up. In 20 years we are going to see a young man on TV who just joined the army but is suing because the gun he was told to carry has sharp edges and the handrail to get into his tank doesnt have proper grip pads on it.

Anyone know of a good Chinese class?

How mentally challenged, I think modern parents could get any worse. No, don't spank your kids, put them in time out for 5 minutes, that'll teach them! No, we have to make sure our kids are always protected, and never have to think about any problems what so ever until they finish college, then they're on their. No, don't teach them anything about the real world, shelter them until they're 30!

My stepsister hit me with a baseball bat and broke my wrist. But I told my parents that I fell off the swingset so that she wouldn't get in trouble.

There's a lesson here.

BAN ALL STEPSISTERS - SAVE THE SWINGSETS!!!!

Some school districts have also banned the game "bombardment" a.k.a. dodgeball. WTF, I loved that game.

That was way before my time, but I did have bb guns, and lots of them, and those things hurt like a mother from 5 feet away.

I broke my arm falling off some monkey bars, and I don't recall my parents ever even considering blaming it on the school.

Parents are so ridiculously over protective now, it's insane, the kids will never learn anything.

Want kids to live longer?
Make the fines for speeding in playground zones $2500 and a licence suspension for the second offence. I live in a playground zone and see enough close ones to make your stomach turn...... :frusty:
