Why no Chat room?

#1 Post by northnewbie » Thu Jun 22, 2006 4:38 pm

This is one of the most informative and "un-biting" motorcycle sites I've been so lucky to visit. That's why I joined! That and when I searched info on the bike I was about to buy this site came up and the site "manager" owed the same bike and gave me a good recommendation. Bonus!

But why is there no chat room? The button is there. Was is taken down because of "bad manners"? No monitors/ops? I think the chat room would be great for those rainy days.

Oh....I am going for the road test Saturday!!!!!!! Wish me luck and send advice!

hope it goes smoothly. DieMonkeys set up an IRC (posted not too far down) so that's a start.

we do have a sort of chat room.

its on us.afterx.net the room is #TMW

you will need an IRC program like mirc to use it.

The very reasons that you like this web site is the fact that there is no chat room. As a current site administrator and former moderator on several quad web sites I have seen the sort of trash that chat rooms generate and all too frequently that trash carries over onto the rest of the web site making it a moderation nightmare
I, for one, hope a chat room never appears on this web site. Just MHO. Oh, and good luck on the road test...just try to stay loose and breathe

There is a chatroom, irc://us.afterx.net:7000/tmw and if there's any trash that pops up I'll just set the room to moderated (only special individuals have the ability to speak). Check it out.

No one ever used it. You could sit idle in there for hours at a time, and no one ever showed up to chat with, unless you agreed to meet there in advance.

Many of us have MSN, ICQ, or AIM names set to show up under our posts. I'm sure you're more then welcome to contact anyone who posts their info.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
