Well It's in damn near mint shape. I start my MSF this weekend. As it stands I won't be touching that 750 until after the course. And even then it will be in parking lots.

I'm 6'1" 205 Lbs. Is this too much bike or have I made a wise chioce?

congrats, i just got a 97 marauder and its sitting in my backyard while im taking lessons on a 250. someone posted here that the nighthawk is kinda heavy but my friend had a 95 and said it was very "forgiving" and not too bad to handle. the 82 nighthawk 750 weighs around 516lbs so i cant see yours being much different. good luck. btw, im 6' 1 200lbs also so i think you should be fine with that bike. IMO

You should be fine. I started out on a '82. They aren't that powerful of engines, just rather heavy. Gotta learn to control that weight. Very forgiving bikes though.

You should be ok, just keep in mind that it's a fairly tall, heavy bike. I almost bought one myself, but my wife hates the look of them. I like the way they look, even though I know they are squared off and on the wierd side. They always looked good to me....

You should be fine. My boyfriend has a 92 nighthawk 750 for his first bike and he is 5'7" tall and about 220lbs. He has had his bike for about 3/4 of a Riding season now, and he loves it. He said the bike is very forgiving and allows you to mess up a bit with no harm to yourself or the bike. I've riden it a few times. I like the way it feels and the mechanics of the bike, but for me it was just too tall, I didn't feel in control at slower speeds. If the bike fits you height wise....you'll be just fine.

After selling my Virago back in '90', I am getting back into riding. I was thinking about a NightHawk as a begin again bike. I'm 6'4" tall. Think it would fit me ok (sounds like it)? Don't have much time to look around since I travel so much, so I'll have to try to narrow down my options and it down to another Virago or NightHawk.

Great forum, glad I found you all here........

the later (84-86) 700 / 750 nighthawks look freaking awesome. from what i understand they are pretty much mechanically the same as the 650 except for a larger bore/stroke? anyway awesome bike. good luck and have fun!

A Marauder is a fairly low slung bike and would handle and feel a lot different than a taller bike. My 1100 Virago has a fairly high center of gravity and took a bit of getting used to.

I'm looking to upgrade to a huge full dresser in the next year or so, I can imagine another period of "Learning to ride all over again" coming up when I do. I'm looking at a Yamaha Royal Star Midnight Venture, longer & heavier (not too much) than a Goldwing, but IMHO a more comfortable bike...
