Looks like its way of the new emissions

After seeing the new Yamaha line up I never would have thought that the V-star or any Vtwin from them would ever be liquid cooled.

Looks like EFI and Liquid cooling are the aftermath of stricter emissions. In fact the EU is getting rid of the Bandit 1200 and ZRX 1200 and Triumph is going EFI for cruisers. What is funny is that engine noise is also regulated in this emissions update now all we will hear when riding new rides is "zzzsssss." ':|'

Oh since I got the new issue of TWO: light bulbs are more dangerous than motorcycling...

TWO?

I might be in the minority here...I think bikes need to catch up in the emissions department. We get such superior gas mileage, its a shame we can't claim to be protecting the environment also.

how bad do you think motorcycle emissions are? Unless you are sporting a 2-stroke, they really aren't anything to complain about.

As for making them all quiet, etc.. thank god for the aftermarket. Manufacturers know exactly what the consumers want, but their hands are tied by emission controls, and whiny jackoffs that don't like to be disturbed during their book-reading session in their morning commute.

So what do motorcyclists end up doing? Saying "screw you", and buying the parts to "fix" our bikes after the fact.

FI makes a huge improvement in emissions.. and your bike has FI verm. Why say no? I'll swap you a brace of carbs for the fuel injection off your bike if you really dislike it so much.

All it would take to fully modernize the emissions on FI bikes is a cat, and cats don't hurt performance enough to worry about. BMW puts them on most of their bikes and nobody even notices.

CNF: you should look around for a BMW F650C/S... they have modern emissions control systems including cat and FI... and it'd be a nice upgrade from the Buell.

As for the noise... it has little to do with other drivers. It has to do with people riding through residential areas at 2AM (after the bars close) with obnoxiously noisy bikes....
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

V, why do you not want bikes to be more environmentally friendly?

The BMW sounds good but also...its a BMW, so is probably outside my price range.

As for liquid cooled bikes, try sitting on the side of the road for 10 minutes because your aircooled bike started to smoke in traffic without moving for 20 minutes at 110 degrees.

it doesn't bother me yet bec the only thing i did on my exhaust is a set valve mod.

but anyway... in the future, once i get enough money, i'll upgrade my exhaust system.

having bikes go through smog check will suck to those who have AM exhaust.

Again V...why are you worried about emissions?

Are you worried about hindering performance? Your bike goes 180 freaking mph what else do you need??

180mph? where did you hear that?

again, it won't affect me now but im worried for all the people who want/have AM exhaust.

and again, it's not about needs, it's about wants.

Well if their exhausts are legal now, I think there are exemptions to emissions laws. A 30 year old car for example cannot be held up to current standards, for example.

So if you have a legal exhaust on your bike now the state cannot force you change it when it changes the law, as I understand. Although I suspect the exhaust you refer to is for "offroad use only".

CA is so strict on their standards anyway I'm surprised you can get away with ANY aftermarket exhaust.
