dirtytoes, if you were in a car, would you have done the same thing?

I didn't think so. Riding a motorcycle doesn't give you exemption from rules of the road, even unwritten rules. From the sounds of it, you made the wrong decisions. If the guy is stopped, in a school zone no less (yes I know it was summer), you need to get back to the speed limit and assess the situation better. If you're going too fast to have time to think about your moves, you're going too fast. I'm leary about tearing by someone when they are stopped in the road like that. I have had several cars end up under my rock panels because they decided to swing out of traffic just as I am overtaking them on the OUTSIDE (another stupid move, you going on the inside to pass if the guy was in the middle of the road).

What happens next time when there are kids in the school zone crossing the street?

As for tailing the cager that pissed you off, that's stupid, for a number of reasons.

Ride smarter, you're giving better motorcyclist a bad name.

What does it matter if it was summer? People go to high schools during the summer too. For summer school, driver's ed, to register for school, to play basketball, etc.

The cager wasn't at fault, you were. I'm willing to bet it was a double yellow, meaning no passing. You were going way to fast for a residential street. And if it was a residential street, there are most likely kids who live in those houses. And even if there aren't, you can just as easily hit an adult.

People don't stop in the middle of streets for no reason. He was probably waiting to do something, wasn't expected some dumb "O Ring" to illegally pass him at 50mph, so he didn't check his mirror, and decided to turn, make a u-turn, or whatever. Illegally passing, in a residential and school zone, at 50mph, around a stopped car, is just plain stupid.

I wouldn't start a fight over something that stupid. However giving them the finger and riding off is always a possibility.

+1 they're either lost, broken down or about to make a turn... either way not good to speed by them for obvious reasons...

unfortunately in NYC they double park and then just bolt out even when you slow enough and stay cautious.

If you want you can take martial arts and makes you more alert if you take it seriously.... for me movements seem slower from time to time when I'm alert, doesnt prevent everything but prepares you better for it.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

I wouldn't want you as a neighbor. You are a little rediculous with this speeding crap. Note: I don't go 50 in residential, just 40 :P. To Dirty, why did you pass him on the left? That makes little sense, especially since you said he was toward the middle of the road. Pass on the right next time.

i would've have passed him on the left but thats where all the parked cars where and i doubt that i would've made it through that tight squeeze.

Because it was your own idiot "O Ring" that put yourself in that position in the first place. Grow up and learn to ride responsibly. Maybe then you'll understand how freaking stupid you acted.

My question still stands. If it was you stopped in the road on your bike, and some jackass went whipping past you on your left at 50mph what would you say about him?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
