Don't touch the bike!!!!

As riders we all know it's the golden rule to look but don't touch (talking about motorcycles here) but it seems some old guy found the hard way from a Hells Angel

Hells Angel attacks elderly man for touching bike

Not that the Hells Angel wasn't already familiar with trouble, he was shot while riding his motorcycle back in April....

Just feel sorry for the old guy....

as if that matters, the idiot punched out another human being for touching his precious motorcycle, i don't care how old the guy was, he didn't deserve that.

Obviously not. I'm just not sure it's fair to characterize the incident as "Hell's Angel beats the snot out of an elderly man for touching his bike." For all we know the "elderly man" was a guy covered in tats, wearing chaps, peering inside the gas tank, and giving this Hell's Angel dirty looks.

He may not have *deserved* what he got, but for all we know, he had it coming to him.

Of course, for all we know, he was a retiree in polyester pants, using a cane, that happened to brush against a handlebar.

"Carroll, riding his Harley-Davidson, stopped at 8:09 p.m. in front of the restaurant and began talking to Benito Dituri of Stratford. Dituri touched Carroll's motorcycle, angering Carroll, police said."

Our pal Benito could well have been picking on this guy and touching around on the bike just to "pee" Carroll off. Who knows? I find it hard to have sympathy for the guy without knowing whether or how he provoked Carroll.

unless carroll was acting in self defense, then he didn't have it coming to him. that's the only way he's justified in this. and since he's been charged with first degree assault and was held down by several witnesses then it doesn't seem so, now does it.

I dunno, I personally wouldn't go up to a biker looking the way Carroll probably looked and start giving him lip and touching his bike. Maybe Benito called him a sissy and asked why he was riding such a girly bike while leaning up against it and moving the mirrors.

The fact is that neither of us have any idea what happened. I'm sure that whatever it was, this guy almost certainly didn't deserve a beating, but you have to admit it's very possible that "Hell's Angel attacks elderly man for touching bike" is a gross mischaracterization of the actual events, yanno?

what surprises me most about this story is that the Angel who was carrying a couple knives didn't actually cut anyone while being subdued and held for police.

the article headline is inflammatory toward the Angel though no matter what the actual circumstances of the event are the headline immediately puts the blame on the biker and not the victim.

Angel could have been high/drunk/crazy
Benito could have been high/drunk/crazy

from the article i would hazard a guess it's somewhere in between

Uhm - and being called a sissy and having your bike leaned on are reasons to repeatedly hit someone in the face/head until you have to be restrained? I don't think so.

Sounds like the guy was a ticking time bomb, no matter what the provocation.
