I just finished the break-in period for my '06 GSX-R 600. I did what the manual said and stayed under 8k rpm... maybe only bringing it up there a couple times. I also strictly followed the recommended shifting speeds for the first few hundred miles. Then I began shifting more liberally so I ran around 4-5k rpm (I do alot of around town riding, 30-60mph. Maybe spent 30 miles total on the highway doing about 80mph).
I'm proud of myself for using such self control on my new bike to make sure it runs for a long long time. Then a skeptical rider told me it was a bad idea, that I just glazed my cyclinders and now it's too late. I took what he said with a grain of salt, thinking Suzuki knows what's best for their machines. But I'm hearing more and more that I really needed to run it MUCH harder. Did I just f*** everything up for myself?
