Why are Harleys cool?
I am NOT trying to start a flame war. Please don't post unless you have POSITIVE feedback.
I always hear you are buying into the culture and such, but I was just wondering if there were any real advantages to riding the bike. Please exclude any culture or "cool" things that aren't tangible.
Thanks

Exclude intangibles? This is going to be a VERY short thread.Randy wrote:I am NOT trying to start a flame war. Please don't post unless you have POSITIVE feedback.

They're cool because....
I guess they're cool because they've been around for 100 years and still use pretty much the same forumla? Or would that count as being stubborn?

I find the V-Rod cool. I'd buy one if I had the money to spare.
As far as Harley the brand, I can't say. I like technological sophistication in a shape I like. The V-Rod has that shape that's pleasant to my eye. And the V-Rod as far as technological, it brings it.
I can think of a million other things to place my loyalty before any company badge. A lot of companies have a hit with some products, but all major brands pull a stinker from time to time. I focus on those homers they hit. It's much more fun seeing any given company get a winner than to be disappointed when you are so faithful to one bade.
I dunno, that's just me. I don't swim in the HD culture. I don't believe in "buying" into a culture. I ride what I like and those that can see my true intent on why I ride, those are the people I wanna hang with.

It's cool mostly for the bad boy image from the '50s. Mid life crisis and such. Loud pipes and Hollywood movies associating villans with Harleys is one hella stigma for cyclists.
Just from what I observe here.

Well if the question is posed:
"Why are Harleys cool in relation to other bikes?"
The answer would be that they aren't.
The bikes are "eh". But HD has to have about the best Brand promotion/image that you can have in a given market.
People still buy those things at those prices like crazy. It baffles the mind really.

If you own a Harley make sure you have a lot of extra money to spend for parts, accessories and service work. Everybody I know that owns a Harley tells me when it starts running rough, missing they take it to the dealer and they end up rebuilding the engine and it costs them $3000.
