+1...

Im confused.....

like I said, maybe in a for profit thing its different then socialized medicine. but once you start selling your organs, only the rich will be able to afford transplants... you're dead, give the gift of life. even if someone does get rich of it (which I dotn see) who cares, you're still helping improve the quality of someones life, if not saving it outright.

The bigger point is that it would be done without written consent. What if the family has religious beliefs that it shouldn't be done? It would cause the living members of the dead person's family much pain and grief if the body of their loved one was mutilated without consent.

I think the current program is good enough. If you want to donate organs, check the box on your driver's license. Or carry a copy of your living will in your wallet. Seems to me that unless it is specified to do so, nobody should be messing around with a dead person's body. It's still sacred to someone.

Cheers,

Me I mind somewhat since I believe that my whole body should return to the planet when I'm gone so that fertile land will hopefully offset my consumption of resources.

Uhm...well it'll get there eventually.

Unless your recepient is an astronaut and he dies in outer space, in which case you're now part of not just the Earth, but the entire galaxy.

Far as I know, we haven't found a way to completely destroy matter yet.

actually human organs is big business. There is a reason why the chinese constantly increase the number of crimes punishable by death. they make big bucks selling the organs of executed criminals.

No, what you end up with is jaywalking as a capital offense when the state budget is tight.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

I've always been an advocate for a program such as this. Michigan has a donor sticker which the Sec of States office asks it's drivers to fill out and affix to the back of their license if they want to be a donor. There have been many news issues in the paper about people who indicate they would be donors, but they forget to fill out the sticker. THerefore, I have always believed if they make it automatic, then I am willing to bet, those who DON'T want to donate will NOT forget to fill out a NO DONOR sticker and there would be many more donors for those seeking. If only we can push this through the state.
