well, what I was looking for was actually some features or benefits that make Harleys better than another cruiser. Maybe something technical or something.
I promise I really wasn't trying to start a flame war!

I'm assuming you're making a joke as your Bonneville looks NOTHING like my Sportster.
"Why are Harley's cool" It is really a matter of opinion. The price tag on the harley is what isn't cool. It is a good looking bike, but so are other look alike japanese bikes that cost far less.
1993 750 Vulcan
one seater
ear shave, pod filters
rear turn signal relocation
lowered rear 2" soft tail
converted to manuel cam chain tensioner
horn relocation
What kind of bike do you ride? What makes it cool? Same reasons. Harleys are legendary for their own reasons and have a huge fanbase. Just like any other manufacturer.

Fortunately, it doesn't drive anything like a Sportster, either. The Bonnie eats Sportsters for breakfast......
Gummiente wrote:BTW, have you seen the recent Kawi cruiser ad in many mainstream motorcycle publications? "There's a fine line between fear and respect. Feel free to cross it once in awhile". Harley isn't the only one that plays on "emotion" and "image".
Mike, that ain't the half of it! Cycleworld, August issue, Vulcan 900 ad, page 29: "the standard touring package gives you everything you need to take control of the road, while the 903cc engine provides maximum torque for those rare occasions when somebody doesn't get out of your way...."
The reason Harley's are cool is the same reason some Harley owners catch a lot of flack. It's because a lot of guys searching for an identity buy into the HD tough-guy image. Buy a Harley, and yer an instant hard-"O Ring". Some people can't stand that whole phony "biker" thing.
I think that people who have strong interest in motorcycles in general really don't care about all that stuff one way or the other.
I ride a Suzuki, but I think the Street Rod is one extremely cool looking bike. I may buy one someday. If I do, I hope I don't start talking like Sam Elliot and dressing like a pirate.
