Yep, I'm in that portion of the cycling elite that has enough brain cells to need protecting.

Nice try, but wrong. You fail to take IQ into account here.
Glad to see that we're mature enough here to think that judging people is a one way street. After all, we're probably better than them anyway right? Ladies and gentlemen, I hate to make this a sermon but there is only one person out there that's infallible...

I personally think riding without a helment is goofy. Aint my head though.

Whatever floats their boat. Of course i find myself firmly entrenched in the attitude that sympathy falls somewhere between "poo poo" and syphilis in the dictionary. At least for folks who don't try a little bit to preserve themselves.

I mean i feel very sorry for someone that say,,,,gets hit by lightning on their bike.

I don't feel sorry for someone that cracks their head open on a low speed fall because they don't like helments.

the jackets werent for protection, they were color matched, which is no crime, mine is too. the jackets were there so that the blondes remembered why they were WITH the guys in the first place.... the motorcycles.... see blondes have a short attention span and almost no memory till it serves them. so you have to keep reminding them that you are on a bike, that way they dont wander off. plus the jackets let other people wheverever they are know that they are on the bikes, and the colors allow people to see which bike you are on, too.
all that aside, I wouldnt mind a bit of decoration on my bike too, though she'll be brunette with curly hair and it wont take a jacket to remind her that shes with me.

I am so sick and tired of this ATGATT and helmet debate.

This is how I choose to ride from now on.

I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

And I don't feel particulary sorry for anyone who wrecks on their bike when they have a perfectly safe cage parked in the driveway. Or for skydivers who die after jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. Or for rock climbers who fall to their death after leaving safer ground. Or for scuba divers that die after submerging themselves in water where they cannot breathe. Or for race car drivers that die after pushing their cars to the limit trying to achieve glory.

Apparently you can hop aboard an inherently unsafe two-wheeled vehicle and yet remain beyond reproach. But if someone else takes that activity just one step farther, they're an idiot. We're all thrillseekers by virtue of the fact that we ride. Why people here continue to insist on creating a rift in the motorcycling community with gear bashing is beyond me. I'm not defending the helmetless rider's comment, he's just as bad. I'm just always surprised to see how intolerant this group of self-proclaimed "open-minded" people can be at times.
