Zoo, your post reminded me of Dennis Leary:
Jim Ficks, remember that guy? Did a jogging book, did a jogging video, and dropped dead of a massive heart attack, when? When he was f*****g JOGGING

Always interesting how a story turns into a philosophical debate about the do's and don'ts of safety gear...but with very good points on both sides.

Now...does anyone know where I can find a dead horse? :boxing:

If you want to see a dead horse, go see the "Why are Harley's Cool?" thread...

dead horses are fine, but a forum topic isn't truly dead until it proves Godwin's Law

Wow ZooTech. For once I completely agree with you! I live in a state that allows riders to choose whether to wear a helmet or not. 99% of the time I choose to wear mine. But it really annoyed me while I was visiting California that I had to wear hemet to ride two blocks away. I wish every state allowed the rider to choose, and I wish every rider respected the others choices.

I also wish every state allowed lane-sharing...

i met someone this weekend who meant the same mockery as the guy in the OP did but with more tact. he said, "wow you wear an awful lot of gear..I mean, those shin guards?" I replied, "yea well, i'm pretty attached to my legs, what can i say!"

I'm kicked back relaxing and getting ready to watch some fireworks at the local venue when a group of sport bikes pull up and park. All 3 guys on their Ninja's (yes, actual ninjas) were wearing a jacket to match the paint job and a backwards hat, each bike was also decorated with an attractive blonde...fairly common sight in a college town. The kids walk past me and one looks at my helmet sitting on the ground and says "you wear a helmet in town...that's pretty g*y." and walks off.

I've been riding for several years now and I can honestly say that was a first for me. I was stunned that a kid just made fun of me for protecting myself. I'm still a little set back at that whole deal. Oh well...one of these days I'm sure I'll be happy I have it...and one of these he'll wish he did.

Helmets are a lot like condoms...it's better to have one and not need it, than need one and not have it.
Should have smashed him in the face with it and said they make nice weapons :D
