Does anyone know of a swing arm conversion kit for an 87 ninja? I would like to put a 180 or 200 rear tire on the bike... is there a kit or does anyone know how I might go about doing this???

Haven't heard of a kit to do that, or even heard of anybody trying it. Why do you want to?

Well. You know that you'll be spending alot of money just on the 'look' of a 20 yr old bike? Well, you'll find out soon enough anyway

What I wanted to mention is that having a larger rear is also going to affect your handling. I dunno if you have friends that have done this already, but if you do, might want to give one of their bikes a ride to see how it feels.

I had a look the swing arm is only $700 CA... is there a ton of other work that goes into this? Is there anyone who has done this before... I am customizing the bike to look more like a super clean naked bike... the bike was free so I am able to put some of money into it...

You will need to replace the wheel and probably the sprocket and rear wheel bearings, and axle, too, and probably the rear brake. You will need to figure out what parts from what other bike will fit yours. Maybe the swingarm people can help, or maybe there is a website.

You might want to check whether the chain and sprockets will line up without hitting anything. You may have to realign everything.

You will have a nightmare of alignment problems, alright. The front sprocket is located in the chassis in a very specific place and putting a tire in the path of the chainline is going to take some creative engineering to avoid interferance. Some how you must supply power from the tranny output shaft to the rear sprocket from a location and inch or two farther out than you have now.

But anything is possible if you throw enough money at the right people.....

Speaking of which.... have you priced a 200mm tire and a 6.5x17 inch rim yet?

And that tire/rim combo is also a fair bit heavier than the stock set-up, especially the tire...at the farthest distance out in the wheel assembly.. and will take a noticable amount of your engines power to turn. Get sprokets with lower gearing than stock.....

I really don't want to rain on your parade.... but I bet there's a really good reason ($ or $ a $ bunch $ of $ 'em $) you don't see alot of 500 Ninjas with this mod.
