Glad you're OK though and your daughter. I've done the forgetting to put the cap on after an oil change. I start the bike and a small puddle starts to form - I realize right away what it is and run over and put it on. Yours was more hazardous, but I can relate to the silly oversight.

That sucks but at least you check the oil.

My brother told me not to check the oil on my bike because it would never move and opening the filler would just let dirt into the oil. Went to the stealer service for an oil change and rode the bike about 100 miles before I needed gas. While getting gas my intuition told me to check the oil. Disregarding my brother's advice, I unscrewed the filler cap to find the level indicator BONE DRY. The bike was 3/4 of a quart low. Don't want to think what that low level would have done if I just kept riding without checking.

Check the fluids regularly and save $$$$

they prolly topped it up but didnt take into account the filter soaking it up...

There is no japanese bike out there that uses oil unless the engine has an oil leak. Ever see what happens when you overfill the engine oil on ur bike? I did. My bike has 7800 miles and the oil was changed once at 4000 miles and I never, never added any oil. Just let it alone, don't touch it.

No bike that uses oil, are you mentally challenged? The bike will use oil if it is running, it uses the oil to lubricate and keep the engine running smooth, if a bike doesnt use oil it will die. You do need to change your oil, if you knew anything about engines or bikes you would know that oil is very important, moron.

I wish I had a camera with me because it was quite a sight to see the bike completely covered in oil. I am just glad my wife was home so she could come out and rescue me, again (she told me that she wants a t-shirt with "Bandit Support Crew" emblazoned on it). She came out with the damn oil cap, a bucket of water, a bottle of detergent and plenty of rags.
I was getting a lot of looks from passers-by probably wondering why I felt the need to wash my bike on the side of the road.
