Hello from northern Illinois!!!!

#1 Unread post by smokeyman66 »

Hey everybody, jumped the gun and had been posting to the New Biker Forum before noticing that I hadn't introduced myself. I will say that this is definitely the friendliest forum on the net. I have bought my first "project", a '79 Yami XS650 Special. I will post pics and updates as I go along. I will also be trying to pick everyones knowledge base as I try to get it running so thanks in advance. If anybody is in the northeast Illinois or southeast Wisconsin area, I'd love the help.

Hey there! I've got a 1979 XS650 like you do. Mine's a standard, not a special -- it's trying really hard to be a Triumph Bonneville, I guess. It's midnight blue, and I've had it for the past 13 years -- and done 99.9% of my own work on it.

I'm several hours north of you, so I can't do much in person, but if you need any help with your bike, let me know!

hey there!
thanks so much. I enjoy the Nighthawk. Its fun, has some power in the 3rd and 4th gear. Just got those new/used motorcycle issues that come up. Working on replacing the forks since i have a leak on the left fork and eventually will get to taking care of the fluids! I'll send photos and post the BBS once i get it all ready!
