New rider.

#1 Unread post by buddhaSMASH »

Hey guys. I'm a college student and I'm looking to buy my first bike. I don't know anything about the market and what's good, so I need suggestions on what type of bike to buy. I obviously don't have alot of money, since I'm in college, so used seems like the way to go for me. I'm a pretty heavy fellow, so I don't want some crotch rocket. I'm thinking maybe a low rider or something along those lines. I've been considering a Suzuki Boulevard. Any suggestions?

Read the stickies in the New Bikers section. They'll answer the majority of your questions.

Since you didn't mention it, take the MSF BRC course. It'll go a long way to prepare you for riding safely...

Just read the specs on the GZ250's engine.

"Four-stroke, single cylinder, SOHC, 2-valve engine with Twin Dome Combustion Chamber (TDCC). Provides a wide power band, good acceleration and high fuel efficiency, combined with the simplicity of a single cylinder engine."

I weight 300 lbs. Can that even pull me?

yes it can... it'll take longer than usual though but if you're short on cash... you don't have much options unless you buy a really old bike.

for cruisers... even 800cc cruisers are still ok for beginners.

How much would a GZ250 cost used? I'm really dumb about this. Total newb.

i dunno sorry. but considering it's MSRP, you should be able buy a used one for 2000 or less depending on the year model.

check your local dealers and craigslist.
