Well I finally did it. I dropped my bike today. I was trying to powerwalk it down a hill on very wet grass. I went to use the front brake to slow down so I could make the turn into my shed and the bike went right out from underneath me. The whole thing happened so fast I was laying in the grass with the bike ontop of my leg before I knew what happened.

There was no real damage to me or the bike. I only have a headache. I think me head bounced off of the ground. Im glad I was still wearing my helmet. And on the bike the turn signal light was puched into the fairing a bit. It sooks like the rubber seal around the arm of the light was just pushed in. So I should be able to pop it right back out. I could not find anything else wrong.

I do have one question though. As I had said before I think my head hit off of the ground hard enough to give me a headache. I was wearing a helmet at the time. The impact was on soft wet grass. Is that enough of a force to damage the helmet in any way? Or is it still good to use for road usage?

soft grass? check for visible cracks and if you still have doubts... some companies are willing to inspect your helmet if you send it back to them and tell you if it's still good. i heard they're pretty objective about it too.

dirtytoes dropped his expenisve shoei X11 and shoei checked it out for him and sent it back to him saying it's still good.

I checked it over and there was no cracks or any sign of damage. There was some grass stuck to the side. Plus there is a visible body imprant in the yeard from where I hit.

Just because the helmet doesn't have any visible damage, doesn't mean there isn't any. The EPS (inner foam lining may have been compressed during your "crash" and the next time you take a tumble, it may not be able to protect your noggin as well. Like Verm said, contact the helmet manufacturer. They can inspect your helmet and verify it is still in usable and safe condition

Since it was a not so expensive helmet would it be better just to go out and get another one. Just to be on the safe side.

Thanks Virm. My helmet was 150. I think that is pretty good for a helmet. I might just go back and see if I can get one tomorrow.

I don't know...a helmet designed to break away on impact with concrete breaking when it hits soft grass?

I can't imagine the force you hit the ground with being near enough to break down the inner lining. If you had landed on the street then yah, maybe. But on grass? Wet, soft grass at that?
