Perhaps if he had run into a tree, maybe. But I've had plenty of falls onto grass before and I just really don't think it'd be that hazardess to a motorcycle helmet.

But whatever you wanna do, it's your money.

A head falling 5-6 feet, combined with the probable snap from the shoulder hitting the ground first, has considerable energy, and the lining of a helmet that's designed to crush to absorb energy will deform.

Yes but the ground also absorbs a lot of that energy. It doesn't all get transferred into the helmet.

And you wouldn't have all that much energy built up in the first place. It would take less than a second to fall that distance. You wouldn't even get the full 9.8m/s out of that.

I thought the same a Shiv said. But like I said it was a hard enough hit to give me a lasting headache. Thats why I am questioning the whole fact. I have been told many different things. I just wanted to get you guys opinions along with all of the ones I have collected already.

If the impact gave you a headache then force was transferred through the helmet to your head. The foam liner is designed to cushion the impact of your head hitting a solid object, or in other words transferring the force of an impact...

Now its your head - but if you are going to put that helmet back on your head wouldn't you feel better about knowing that it is still in a 'working condition'?

You also have to consider how much force the liner can absorb before it breaks apart. I doubt that at .00001 J of energy the line is going to shatter into bits and pieces.

You can get a headache from the simplest of knocks onto the head. I got one once from overcalculating the distance form the reciever to my ear on a phone. Headaches aren't caused by force, they're caused from pressure in your head (air, most the time).
