Not to belabor the (hopefully) dying "harleys are cool" thread any further, but this thread-let piqued my curiousity:

I believe it refers to a bike used for Postal Delivery or courier duties.

Im not sure how ya mail is delivered over there in the states?

but here in Australia, the postman ("Postie") rides around on a honda CT110 and delivers mail door to door.

It is widely accepted here, the Posties on thier CT110's are like a band of outlaw bikers ie; they are hardcore (all weather riders), excellent handling skills (especially low speed skills), they will not wave to you, all ride the same steed (CT110), and can turn that steed inside out.

Its also accepted that the CT110 has possibly the highest number of sales per unit of all time, it is a motorised legend on 2 wheels. There is nothing it cant do, and it will do it all day every day.

And i want one

US postal service used to use right-hand-drive jeeps (so the driver could load a mailbox without getting out, or could debark away from the street)):

In the '80s they went to a specially designed truck called a Long Life Vehicle (LLV)

Now they use a mixture of those, minivans, subarus, and other vehicles.

Here is my trusty steed. It is relatively new to me since I managed to destroy the gearbox on the last one.

Here is a shot of a few of the other bikes at the D/C. We currently have around 50 at our disposal.

My hat's off to you Minty. I wouldn't be able to hold a job like that ... I'd round up a bunch of mates and be out racing those things around on the weekends ... and be sacked on Monday ...

I did see one on a mpeg that did about 150 kmh in about 400 meters, but it was dropped from a helicopter
