Once again, these are two different beasts. Ducati makes a highly refined (so refined that it can be finicky) machine and the 999R is a 100% pure race bike. No one has a touring 999R...and I admire it for what it is, a beautifully made racing machine. The SV650 is just SO much more versatile!

Honestly I can see myself getting an SV650 as a 2nd bike in a few years, or maybe a track-ready SV. The girl riding the silver SV at the track day says she got hers completely race-prepped (performance suspension, body work, brakes, exhaust, etc) for $2,000. It is in great condition too.

i don't think $2000 will cut it for my bike to upgrade it to race suspension, brake, bodywork, and exhaust.

i'll just work my way up w/ these priorities...

1. race tires
2. race bodywork
2. race suspension
3. race brakes
4. race exhaust

I'd get brakes before suspension. I'd rather stop reliably then absorb bounces. Gixxer should already have really good suspension anyways.

Sorry, I worded that funny. She didn't get her SV set up for $2000, she BOUGHT the bike already race prepped for $2000!

a $2000 SV650 race prepped bike??? that's dirt cheap. nice going for her.

If you look around you can find 'em cheap.

but you could say the same for the stock brakes. they're good too.

both are important but i'd prioritize stability over braking.

I would love to start into track days. But first I need a bike that I can use for them.

A GS500 will work fine...better than alot of others out there infact.
