Bar/Chain Oil as Chain Lube?

#1 Unread post by Aquaduct »

Silly question I guess, but would good old bar/chain oil used in chainsaws, etc. be effective as motorcycle chain lube. Maybe in a pinch? Or is there something fancy in the spray-on stuff?

I don't see why that wouldnt work just fine. I used to use 5th wheel lube for tractor trailer trucks when I worked at a trucking co. It was real sticky and stayed on the chain good.
Live it like you mean it, this ain't no dress rehearsal!

Chain&bar oil would be fine, it might fling more than dedicated motorcycle chain lube, like any oil. But it will lube the chain just fine, and probably won't make anymore of a mess of the bike than hamfisted application of bike lube would.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:
