gs500

#1 Unread post by toroytorero »

I've been looking into the gs500 and I really like the way it looks but I noticed some people have what looks like a naked version but all that shows up on the suzuki site are one with a big fairing.

So do people just take the thing off once they get it or is their another version... ??

thanks

There is another version but they stopped selling them in the US back in '04. Shame too 'cause the naked version looks better.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

odd. I like the plastic. I guess I'm vane.

Anyway, you could get ninja 500 and take of upper fairings.

I'm just going to try and hold out and see if I can find a 04 or earlier model to buy. I need a used bike anyhow.

Actually the last naked GS500 sold in the US was the 2002 model. There was no 03 sold here and the 04 and later were fully faired. Both are available in other countries.

I'm one who likes them naked and when my 97 GS500 was totalled in July 03, I went out to find a low milage 02 model, last of the nakeds. Don't know what I'll do when it's used up, it's the last of the real bikes sold on our market.

Small but significant changes were made on the 01 GS's like 3 circuit carbs to replace 2 circuit ones and some cam changes that make it much more flexible than previous models were stock. The 01-02 models are the best of the used nakeds. The 04 and newer fully faired ones have the same changes of course.

I've had a ball with my GS's since I bought the 97 new in March of 99. Put 80k miles on it and now have 40k miles on the 02 I bought with about 4k miles on it. But if I were to buy one new now, I'd get the Ninja 500 instead and pitch the lower chin fairing. Better performance with the Ninja 500 and now it's a little less costly than the GS. Naked GS500 always had a significant price advantage over the EX/Ninja 500.
