Hi,
I stopped riding my cycle about two years ago after my gas tank developed a leak at a seam. I repaired the leak, only to find out another leak on the other side of the seam under the paint started after I had the tank back on the bike. I sort of gave up and now am in the mood again. Finally, the tank is repaired. Evidently, while it sat for two years, something happend to the fuel delivery system.
I had to replace the fuel pump, it was locked up, and I had to spray the float mechinizem in the tank with wd40 to free it up from a little rust. I replaced the fuel filter in the tank and rubber lines inside the tank and outside to the fuel rail. I checked the fuel pump and filter to be sure gas would flow, and it does.
When I go to try and start, it will not fire. To make sure the spark is getting there, I sprayed starting fluid into the intake grill... and as long as I spray the fluid, the motor will run.
What do I need to check, and how, to determine why the fuel injectors or other fuel delivery components are not sending fuel into the cylinders? It is fuel injected. Could all eight injectors be clogged, or do you think it is something common to all eight? Without the starting fluid, it doesn't even try to fire, meaning not one of the cylinders is getting fuel.
I think this is all related to sitting for two years...

you're going to have to pull all the injectors and clean them out thoroughly, then reassemble. make sure you prime your fuel pump before you try to start it, as if it runs without fuel you will burn it out.
