The best attempt at an excuse for having huge chicken strips that I've read yet!macktruckturner wrote:You should the looks on the faces of those with no chicken strips when the guy with 1/2" strips of virgin rubber on the edges of his tires pass them with ease in a turn they're dragging pegs through, on a "girly bike". I have seen a number of people crash trying to get rid of their "chicken strips". With proper body positioning and counterweighting, good throttle control, and the right line - you can make the same turn faster with less lean angle in the bike. I prefer to give myself as much available lean angle as possible - for the surprise patch of gravel/dead animal/milk crate in the middle of a turn. If you're already leaned over as far as the bike will go - you're going to crash. If you've still got lean to spare you've got choices - lean it in hard and take a tighter line, or stand it up and take the outside line.
The street isn't a race, and shouldn't be ridden as such IMNSHO. If you're going so fast that the proper body positioning and counterweighting, throttle control, and the right line puts you on the edge of your tire - you'd better be on a race track, in full leathers. In all other cases, you're needlessly endangering yourself and others. Not my place to tell anyone how to ride, live, or die though.
happy riding.
