they took $1k off the top and got me the original financing level. looks like I'm getting a bike tomorrow.

feeling much better now but this has been a real hassle.

I'm sooo happy for you. It's not easy when you have to advocate for yourself...very stressful. Glad you were able to turn things around!

Your score is determined by a number of things - one inquiry isn't going to hurt him. Its when you see tons of inquiries from places that are offering credit over a long period of time. Your score typically doesn't lower until a pattern is seen, or you go really nuts in a short time period (2 months taking out a lot of $$). All they will see is an inquiry and no loan because he refused.
Not true. I saw my credit score drop 30 points literally over night from just one dealership. The next day, when the second dealer ran my credit I said, "Wait a minute, it was 30 points higher yesterday". Then he showed me where the first dealer ran my credit application through eight different banks trying to get the payment I was demanding. Signing that credit application should be taken very seriously. And, if the deal goes south at the last minute, it's worth it to threaten legal action.

I have no idea what your credit history looks like - but that should absolutely not happen. I've had plenty of things that I've done while shopping around, and never had mine drop 30 points overnight from one application - nor from accepting one loan! If that happened every time you did it..I'd have a negative score by now from all the shopping around I did when checking out mortgages.

I've also never had a late payment or messed anything up, and made sure to always float a small balance early on, as that makes a difference in your score when you're first starting out.

I have quite a number of family members in the numbers business (lots of lenders) and they all state that shouldn't happen unless there is something else in your history.

I also check my own score out a few times a month, plus I get a full 3 in 1 sent to me once a month.

Picked it up, geared up, and rode it home today. Hotter than hell and a long-ish ride for my first ride in a few years, but I'm smiling like a little kid.

Pics coming in a day or two when I get around to it.

(Whew - that was a hassle...but worth it)

That sux! You were right to walk out. I wouldn't return calls from them either. Just let 'em be.

I had an HD dealership in Hawaii sign a contract on a bike with me. While I was securing financing through my credit union (HD finance wanted way too much, which is why I turned it down) they called me to tell me that they someone else who wanted to pay more for the bike and if I didn't pick it up by X time, they would sell it.

I promptly wold them to write me a check for my down payment and I would be there in an hour to pick it up. Getting that check from them was like taking candy from a baby! Since it was my money and the check wasn't ready when I got there, I quietly walked out and called the BBB and the local news. Needless to say, I got the check soon after that.

When I got home, my credit union had called to tell me that my purchase check was ready to pick up. That next day, I went out and got the same model bike in better shape and for less money.

Hopefully the same will happen with you.
