Deal's Gap crash video
If you guys watch the yellow line just before you can hear the bike gun it, the cager actually pulls over to the left. I think the cager was attempting to get in the way of the bikes and not let them pass. Hence the "they're going to beat our bottoms"...they knew they swerved.
Then the bikes gun it to pass and poory negotiated what was up ahead.
The cagers should have stopped and waited. They could have parked the vehicle over as far as they could. Since there were several in the car, one could have gone back down the road a ways to flag oncoming motorist. The rest wait up front with the bikers.
They were scared and ran because they were partly to blame. The other was just bad judgement and driving on the bikers part.

I would have stopped to help, like someone else mentioned you can pull over as much as you can and have somone flagging any cars that are approaching.

I don't think the van pulls to the left. The biker shouldn't have passed such a behemoth on a turn and shouldn't have used the rear brake so much. I think he locked up the rear because he fishtailed slightly. At first the guy following must have been target fixated as he followed him towards the ditch but was able to make the turn better.
When the biker passed the van, he should have leaned further in the turn instead of jamming on the rear brakes.

The van absolutely does not swerve left. At the point where the bikes are passing, the camera is almost over the white line on the right.
You can see the brake light on the first bike as its merging right back into its lane but leaning right. The bike goes straight into the lane. I can't tell if he lets off the brake or not, but I guess that he doesn't given how much I see him slowing down. The biker simply failed to push into the upcoming turn, possibly braking the entire way to the ditch.

Watch the video again, and LISTEN to the engine of the vehicle. That isn't a CAR or even a minivan.KingRobb wrote:that voice also said they are gonna beat our arses, lets get outta here.
jerks in the car and wrecklessriders.
Judging by the very high point of view, and the sound of the engine inside the cab, the video is being taken from one of those mega RVs (the kind on a tour bus frame). Thats why it looks like he is intentionally swinging left on some curves... has to make sure the whole thing stays on the road.

The RV driver wasn't involved in the wreck, he did nothing illegal. It was the rider who did an idiot move and ended up in the ditch... there was no way for the RV driver to stop safely without becoming a greater danger to other riders or traffic.
My guess is that the driver was concerned that he'd get a whuppin' for being ON 129 in an RV in the first place. He shoulda hollered out the window that they were calling 911 or something, to at least offer that much support.
My guess is target fixation on the part of the rider and too much speed. The guy following the 'victim' nearly followed him right into the ditch, but managed to save it, just barely.

Passing in a no passing zone. There may be cases it makes sense, but in that set of turns, I think they were being impatient. I've seen several videos where someone wrecks a bike trying to hurry around an inappropriate corner. He messed that up in so many places, we could write a chapter of a book just on his goofed pass.

I'd have to agree with that, you can tell from the windshiled view and the HUGE side mirror, not to mention that the camera angle is way above them looking down.Lion_Lady wrote:Watch the video again, and LISTEN to the engine of the vehicle. Kamikaze desribes those two bikers to a tee. Passing in a curve around an RV that could come over at any time, which I dont think it did. And more than one bike passing at a time to boot. He appeared to freeze up, just didnt know what to do. I think the guy on the bike behind him didnt fixate too bad, if at all. He just couldnt make the corner either, if he fixated he would have been in the ditch too, IMO. Lucky for them no oncoming bikes or cages were coming, it could have been much worse.
