As awful as it is, I don't doubt that they died. If you watch, they were wrapped around those bars pretty tight. They just got whipped out of that thing like rag dolls. If they died, they probably passed out because of the speed and hit their heads on the top bar. I think this could have broken their necks and killed them. That was some seriously wierd looking footage, human bodies don't normally look like that.
