I recently purchased a Rebel w/ 3,000 miles on it. Didn't really think much of the mechanical side of things but I've had time to figure out that the bike doesn't like to run unless the choke is on. I've done 15+ miles on the interstate and tried to take off the choke and it's just not having it. It should of been well warmed up by that time. The owners manual states choke for like 1min:30sec but that's not going to work. From reading around in here and from experience w/ my dad's bike, they don't run w/ the choke on once it's warmed up.
So, something has to be wrong. I'm guessing it's going to be with the carburator (sp) and that I need to make some adjustments w/ the air flow? I'm trying to obtain a repair model so I can do some dinkin' around. Any ideas on what I should be looking at once I get the manual?

As you may know, the function of the choke is to choke off the air when starting a very cold engine, hence the name. Therefore when you must close the choke in order to make a warm engine run, it indicates an air leak...a serious one. Check the boots to the carb and any other air intake for hair line cracks or loose fittings.

No, clean the entire carb. There are many small passages that will clog just like the idle circuit. If you want to continue to have running problems, clean the carb half-"O Ring" with a needle and some spray. CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE REGULARLY!!!
Chem-dip works good if you take them completely apart and remove all plastic and rubber parts. After you chem-dip them, spray them down with carb cleaner and into all the passageways. The chem-dip will loosen everything up, and the spray cleaner will knock it out. Replace any o-rings that may look like they are starting to get hard.
