There seem to be a number of CX riders on this forum, maybe someone can help me out. I have a water pump seal leak that is mixing the oil and antifreeze, and well, that isn't a good thing. I hear this is common among these engines - can anyone point me to a parts place that carries this stuff? I was told to replace the pump itself, but I can't even find the part...anywhere!
Any help is appreciated.

Hey, Kingfish. Hope you get it straightened out.
I'm with Big B that eBay may be your best bet, but you can also post a "wanted" note to the Chopper Charles CX500 forum, as I've had luck getting a larger gas tank there (if I can only make time to mount it...).
Here is the link to that site, and to the UK CX500 forum as well (which may not be useful for parts, but does have info about water pump problems and how certain kinds of antifreeze can bring them on!!!).

Good to find another Honda CX500/650 owner - good luck :-)
My first bike ever is a very clean 81' Honda CX650. Soon after I bought the bike (two years ago now) the alternator quit and little did I know what a pain in the butt this repair is on a CX650 engine?
I found all the parts I need from after market sources but not after some serious searching and talking to other CX500/650 owners on forums in the UK. It seems that there is a big following for the CX engines in the UK.
All the engine service forums had major articles on alternator R&R and water pump shaft seal R&R. Most common questions:
1) What is the issue with pressing in the water pump shaft seal? I have destroyed two seals trying to press them in. I found out that Honda changed the bore diameter of the water pump seal half way through production. But apparently the service market does not have a PN# for the early small diameter water pump seal, like the engine I have. I measured the difference in diameter of the seal in the service after market and the bore for the seal on my engine, which is about 0.032". The available seal is way too big for my 1981 CX650. So, I currently have a machine shop boring-out the hole for the water pump seal to a proper press fit.
2) To R&R the stator winding I need to cut out the old part and solder in the new stator. Is there an order the stator wires need to maintain? All the stator wires are yellow. This after market part was not cheap and it took about month to get. But I have it now plus all the seals and a new thermostat to round out the re-assembly.
My main concern is, I can't test any of these parts prior to complete assembly of the engine into the bike. If one of these repairs does not work this bike is going on the auction block the next day.
Thanx, KPO
