I qualified for my motorbike learners when i was 19 but i never had it issued, i am now 24 and have just had it issued. This is probably a good thing as i have been some what of a hoon in a car in the past. I feel i am becoming more mature and feel i am ready for the rights and responsibilities of owning a motorbike. I used to say when i was driving cars that i wouldn't die in a car, but instead i would die on a bike.
BUT NOW i have changed my attitude and now say i want to live on a motorbike.
Over the last couple of weeks i have been riding a mini motorbike (replica - with rotational gearbox) around my area. I feel this is giving me confidence I need for a 250. I think this experience is giving me the courage to go larger, getting me used the wind, and the fast moving black top beneath me.
While the controls aren't exactly the same being a rotational gear box (no clutch) I have been using the head light, i have been focusing on using indicators when changing direction on the bike also this has helped as i am doing head checks before any change of direction or major speed changes, horn if needed, and the idea of using the brakes appropriately.
Thanks for letting me ramble on. Brian
P.S. When i was five my uncle put me on a pee wee 50, i ran over two dogs, come off the bike standing and the bike done a few somersaults over me.
Also when i was 16 my dad put me on a old 110 yamaha chook chaser, I was riding alright and changing gears pretty well, didnt even stall it, done a few laps of the 5 acre paddock, rode back to my father and forgot the clutch helps alot when you wish to stop the bike from moving, resulting in 5 kangaroo hops, then she stalled. lol Oh well these were my first bike experiences.
Safe Riding to all. Go Doohan
