Nice of the U.N.

#1 Unread post by JC Viper »

With all the problems in the world today, and even corruption at their own headquaters, you'd think the U.N. would focus strongly on those things.

In a new issue of BIKE magazine there's an article about the U.N. targetting motorcycle exhausts and the noise they emit. The World Health Org and the U.N. are trying to make a worldwide standard for exhaust noise. The noise level aimed for? It's a "Hoover quiet" 81dB which the stock GSXR 600 won't pass (currently 100 dB) and Honda UK syas it might mean the end of under seat pipes.

"Impending legislation could mean ugly, oversized end cans, fewer aftermarket pipes and washing machine-quiet bikes for everyone." "Back in 2002 the UN decided all new bikes should have daytime running lights and at the stroke of a pen it was law overnight." - all from the article.

I'm all for noise limits but 81 is kinda low (my Vulcan is maxed to 87 dB). Maybe there's nothing to worry about... the AMA seems to be working with them closely...

The U.N. says all kinds of silly things. No one pays any attention it it.

the UN can make all the "Laws" they want, its up to the individual countries whether they want to follow them or not.

The UN has also passed a law banning civilian posession of guns as well, last time I checked any law abiding adult in the US can still buy a gun with little difficulty, and AK-47s are incredibly easy to obtain in most 3rd world countries.

IMO, the UN is useless.

I don't get why they are trying to make all these stupid laws when they have bigger problems to deal with.

Actually the article stated that when the UN says something the EU takes it seriously so this may not affect the US but many politicians are all ears when it comes to limiting dangerous vehicles.

Agreed, with all the more important things to worry about they choose the one that's easy.

Yeah, so everyone let's drop ALL of our small problems until the big ones are fixed. WHO'S UP FOR JOINING THE MILITARY AND FIGHTING IN IRAQ? Nobody? Very few? Okay then.... since you're complaining about the UN why don't we all JOIN THE UN PEACEKEEPING FORCES IN THE CONGO! EH? EH? That's an ever bigger problem than Iraq! No takers? Thought not.

I tried to sign up for the US Marines in 2003. A problem with my medical history put a stop to it so I have to hold off for a few more years. I made a promise to myself that if the situation gets really bad I will force them to let me join. Not being with your friends in the field sucks "O Ring".

OK, sounds good to me.
I actually plan on joining the army next year when I finish school. Just like my dad and my sister.
And why would we join the UN if we're complaining about how it's set up?

I hope you either have an enlistment agreement or a DD214 to match your lets all go join the services attitude. I have one already myself. Honorably discharged Sailor here.

Oh and screw the UN and their laws.
Dyin'? Boy, he can have this little life any time he wants to. Do ya hear that? Are ya hearin' it? Come on. You're welcome to it, ol' timer. Let me know you're up there. Come on. Love me, hate me, kill me, anything. Just let me know it.
