if yesterday was the day i lay her down... i'd rather have what happened to me compared to a real lowside.

i could easily total my bike over there if i were to lowside.

i parked my bike while riding over gravel a lot. but yeah, it was dumb of me to have carried too much speed. it's such a n00b mistake. well actually, i am n00b, i guess.

oh well, i think i can mask those sratches.

My bike went down, and so did I in a parking lot, while no even moving. I had just set the side stand and was about to get off it and the stand gave way and down went the bike taking me with it. I guess the stand wasn’t extracted all the way. Lucky for me, it cost me a clutch lever ( I changed both levers to chrome anyway so no big deal) and a read signal light. Needless to say, It will never happen again because I now always check the stand twice.

my earlier joking aside, I've done the same thing - in two different circumstances myself - doo-doo happens. First involved my front tire sliding through a chalk line - I goofed up and grabbed too much brake. Blamo, fell on the left. About a month later, I rode up to Two Wheels Only late at night. In a rather braindead move I pulled off into some grass to turn around and avoid being flattened by rednecks flying through the mountains at night (probably runnin' shine). I came up over a hill, and was greeted by a large sand pit. A combination of me being too tired to ride, and my front wheel sinking into the sand up to the brake disc left me on my side wondering what the heck had just happened. Neither occured at more than about 5mph - but both were learning experiences.

that's what sucks.

like i said, i parked my bike and moved around loose gravel a lot of times before. i knew i shouldn't have carried that speed while on the gravel. i got careless.

i guess i got reminded.

I'm not trying to tool on anyone here, but new guys need to seriously consider borrowing a friends dirtbike for even just an afternoon. I have no idea why people say that dirtbiking doesnt help street riding at all "cause its not real experience" or yadda yadda bullshit bullshit. Before I started doing serious riding I hopped on my uncles old dirtbike and hit some sandpits. First turn i made in deep sand, i fell over immediately. By the end of the day I was flying around the pits and never fell over again. Plain and simple, dirtbiking teaches you to balance your bike. Yeh a 150lb dirtbike with knob tires isnt the same as a 400 pound street bike, but you wont be taking your streetbike into 6 inches of loose sand, or riding it across small ravines, so its a scaled experience. think about it.

actually, when i looked at what kind of gravel patch i rode into. it was pretty dumb to even think about riding over it.

the gravel patch was also in plain sight. i just didn't think i would loose my front like that. i was expecting a little slide but it was far from little. i totally lost front.

and yeah, if i had a friend who has a dirtbike, i will ask to borrow it if he's cool w/ it. i don't have friends w/ dirtbikes though.
