What Bike Is for me ? First bike.

Ok, so im deciding to get a bike for the first time. I really like how the ninja looks, the really sporty look, i was thinking of getting a 250 or somthing maby a little more because it is my first bike and they are alot cheeper. Can any one help me with some other names or modles that are simlir to the ninja (I really know just about none, i cant find any other ones that look like that)

new for 2006, hyosung GT250R...

a true sportbike... unlike the ninja 250 and 500, which are just "sporty" bikes.

nothing wrong w/ sporty bikes, but if you're looking for a sportbike, i'd go w/ the hyosung instead.

sportbikes have the aggressive riding position... you know like mountain bikes. where the handle bars are low and your back isn't straight.

they are meant to be the most agile motorbikes. they are also meant to be somewhat aerodynamic. in america... we don't get the 125 and 250cc sportbikes that europe does. only beginner sportbike out here right now is the hyosung.

the SV650 is also a sportbike, it's still cool for newbies but it's already pushing the limits of a newbie bike.

a ninja 250, 500, and GS500F have standard riding positions...

again... nothing wrong w/ either one. they just have different styles and purpose.

i re-read your post and you say you like the sporty look so you should be fine w/ either the ninja250, 500, or GS500F.

bikes to consider:

Ninja250
Ninja500
GS500

Other things to do:
Buy good gear
Take a basic motorcycle riding course
Read the newbie guide on this site not just the forums
Don't listen to people who say "you're a big person, you should be able to handle a ____" but do listen to your instincts

the ninja 250 is still quicker than that hyosung GT250. Plus it has been around forever and is rock solid reliable.

if your wanting a sportbike and want a 250 the ninja 250 will be the easiest one to find and get parts for (hyosung is new to the market so dealer network is small).

you could still get away calling the ninja 250 a sportbike. It has a good amount of power for its size, will rev to 14,000rpm (you have to rev the hell out of it to get any power, but the ninja 250 loves being ridden hard). The seating position is more upright than a super sport, but it still has excellent handling and will make you very happy on any twisty backroad.

the agressive riding position VX is talking about referrs to super sport bikes like the suzuki GSXRs, Yamaha R1/R6s, and the 600+cc Kawasaki Ninjas.

nope, there are non-supersport bikes that have aggressive riding position.

like the SVS models, katana, hyosung 250R and 650R etc. sure they're not as aggressive as RR bikes but they are still aggressive.

ER-5 has an aggressive position if you swap the bars on it because of the lower body ergonomics, I'd not call it a sportsbike though.

This is the Hyosung GT650S - look familier?

I really like the Hyosung's, for a budget bike they are pretty awesome even if they do have inherited a few finish quality issues from Suzuki.

I just hate the healight setup on the front - its similar to the Gixxer.
