problems with exhaust

i started my bike today finally and when i rev it there is no smoke from the exhaust so i put my hand infront of the exhaust and it isnt puffing anything out but it is getting warm i tried to ride it but it wont go any faster than 20mph

btw its a honda melody

Your muffler could be plugged off. I have no idea what a Honda melody is, but I'll guess a scooter? 2-stroke? The muffler may be re-packable (not welded together) and the packing material can come loose and plug the pipe inside. You have to open it up, remove the old packing, and wrap new material around the pipe.

If it is not re-buildable, you might have to buy a new one.

Take it off and have a look inside it as well as you can.

it was running ok until i took it off to put a new gasket on the exhaust because it was blowing at the cylinder head
yes it is a 2 stroke scooter

BuzZz is right, it is likely to be the packing in the muffler. On the farm we used to put the whole pipe onto a fire and let all the oil and crap burn off, but I guess that would NOT be a solution to your problem, unless you dislike your chrome etc.

You gotta take the pipe off, and clear the blockage.
