Same way they can have senators who think "The internet is a series of tubes."

Ignorance of the technology, coupled with political ideals.

Politics are almost exclusively about persuasion, and public image. You are much more likely to elect a well spoken, distinguished, clueless person, than you are an unshaven, spluttering, wild haired genius.

If you doubt that statement...take a look at any elected official above that of say.....dog catcher.

i agree with that at least in part but the thing is it wasnt just the dumb politician spitting stuff he came up with in his head like they sometimes do. They actually got this information from supposed government experts who are supposed to be specialists in advanced technology and arent politicians, yet can't even recognize a stupid game movie when they see it.

Funny I don't recall any government outcry on the brainwashing America's Army.

Gotta love the media.
I hate to deflect this thread a bit, but have you ever played AA? I have played it and have no idea what your talking about. If you could provide me some examples of the brainwashing, I would appreciate it.

Yea, seriously. It is not brainwashing, but I would agree that it is a recruitment tool in the sense that it gets people to think about the army and maybe joining up.

I played it after the recruiter gave it to me. It was fun but that's the thing, many kids may think the real army is fun and they may sign up when there's a war whether the war was justified or not. This is the same government that blames videogames, TV and movies for teaching their kids violence and that it is good. So obviously it is a brainwashing tactic according to their rule book.

Again, I like the game.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

If anything that game keeps me far away from the army. It shows all the crappy parts. You gotta go through training, you get shat on if youre a low rank, you die really easily, you can also die slowly from blood loss, theres no vehicles, you can go to jail...

If that game shows anything about the army its that you can just be hanging out and all of a sudden you're dead cause a grenade communicated with your face.

If the army wanted to brainwash people, this game would go in the completely opposite direction. I just finished Advanced Warfighter the other day. Now that would make me go join the army.

Look, if your 18 years old, you have the mental capacity to make important decisions. If you make an important decision based upon a video game, the Army is the least of your problems. Most of the vocal opposition that I hear about AA is from left wing people who hate the military anyway. Im not saying thats you, but this is an old debate.

Aside from being a game and having game mechanics, it makes a reasonable effort to provide a very basic introduction into Army idealogy. To me, its very similiar to most FPS shooter games out there. It just that some people object to Army idealogy.
