Even I like the 650R - do I think Motorcyclist was smoking crack when they named it best bang for the buck over the SV650 this year? Yes, very very good crack. Clearly our definitions of "bang" and "buck" differ. That needless "point" being said - I do enjoy the 650R.
The position of the bars/pegs suits me nicely for commuting, though I find it lacking when the road turns twisty - and that is where I tend to ride most. The engine is super smooth. Geoff ain't lying about the near impossibility of bogging in 1st or 2nd gear. Like the SV - you can start from a standstill in 2nd with little complaint from the drivetrain. I can't really comment on the fuel economy as I didn't fill it up - and my buddy and I traded bikes back before we ran out of gas, but I seem to recall him topping off a similar amount to me.
I can't come up with a good reason for someone that wants one to not get it

I know, it's just personal opinion.
I tend to prefer faired bikes. But there are some naked bikes that I think look awesome. (BMW K1200R ) I think my biggest problem with the SV is it's underside and exhaust. Especially since the Ninja's exhaust looks so cool. (Sounds bad I guess)

ER-6n^. If it was available here, I woulda gotten it over the Ninja 650R/ER-6f. If i could get my hands on the plastic bits with the blinkers, I'd do the conversion and go with a Z1000 nose. Pretty much the same i believe, if not close. I'd use a different gauge cluster than the 6n uses though, not sure how much i like that one. Also, since I'd have no more fairing, could go with some clipons (they'd need a cent rise though) and lower the front end on the forks. I also want those grab bars on the passeger seat. There is soooooooo much stuff I'd like to do to this bike, on different levels of plausabliliy/affordibility/practicality (a penske 3-way adjustable shortened shock WOULD be pretty badass, but it's $2,000)
