i prefer to live in denial.

I dont want to watch videos of people crashing.

I'm scared as hell of dieing, but im even more scared of dieing having not experienced the things i've wanted to experience.

Some day I know I'll crash, i just hope i live through it and can get back on the bike eventually.

Have you heard the expression if you plan for failure you will succeed?

Don't think like you expect to crash. I don't plan on ever crashing, however, I always wear my gear and am always vigilant....just in case....

I hear people talk about having fear. One thing you don't want is to live or ride in fear.
We can and should "respect" our vulnerability, but if you go through life afraid, you will not have a full life.

There was another fatal accident last Fri in Surrey, The rider was hit by a Mercedes that failed to yield and threw the rider into the hood of an oncoming truck. This one hit a little close to home as I know the riders wife, she also works at the Post Office. This accident happened a couple of blocks from his home, he was on his way to work in the morning rush...

I hope the outcome wasn't the typical "let off with just a warning" crud.

I saw a mangled sport bike that was hit in the front wheel by a mini van driver who appeared to be drunk and swerved into him.

Rider wasn't hurt too badly and there was no speeding on the his part. His bike on the other hand didn't even look like a bike after mashing into the curb.

Everyone had to start causing a bottleneck just to get a look and grinned. I felt they all knew they could easily hurt me if I didn't allow them to cut me off tailgate or share / get out of lanes.

Karma sucks.

Do you have any details? Although the Mercedes driver may have failed to yield, this may have been preventable.
Never expect that anyone is going to follow the rules. If you stay aware and are prepared to yield even though you have the right of way, the only that gets hurt is your ego.

Just like the other crash that was posted...the bloke was doing everything right.....
we need to know...was he riding right beside the car....was he riding in his blind spot....

I'm not talking about blame here. It's not about who is at fault.

I am trying to get the point across that most crashes...are preventable....
If everyone drove and rode with care......

Sometimes you can't be sure that a driver or rider even has a license.

Here in Vancouver a huge scam was uncovered. Some driving schools had an arrangement with some motor vehicle clerks....they paid them to issue licenses.
there has also been whole families driving on one driving license.
Another school would rent a 14 seater passenger van and take people over to Gibsons for their road test.
There is no traffic over there and maybe only 6 traffic lights. They would pass over there and get their license issued, but then they would be driving here andnot have a clue how to deal with the big city and the congestion etc.

The point is, as riders, we can trust nobody.
Always be 100% prepared to yield. Park your ego back at home.

I don't know the exact details, but you are correct, just because you have the right of way, doesn't mean you should take it. If a semi trailer wants to cut into your lane, and you see that he has a yield sign to obey, should you really force the issue??? I also believe if you drive/ride like you think everyone on the road is out to kill you, you'll be a bit more cautious driver/rider, and the roads will be safer for everyone...

This is all a part of defensive driving, expect the unexpected and you just might live to tell the tale...

Also, if a collision is an "accident", then when someones dies or is seriously injured, you really can't point a finger or place blame. If you call it what it really is, a "Crash" or "Collision", then there is the ability to say there is someone at fault.

I know it's just semantics but people get off of crimes for just those reasons. In Winnipeg, a woman walked out of one of the larger deptartment stores, saw her bus coming down the street and ran across the street to catch it. A police officer stopped her from getting on the bus and gave her a ticket for J-Walking. This big ol' Ukrainian women fought the ticket in court and won. Her defence??? She didn't walk, she ran across the street...

I'm glad I've seen this, it'll make you think twice about going faster, for that extra rush. I love my bike, and I love speed, but I don't think it's worth my life.
