well i have rode on a few bikes and have driven a few also all being dirt bikes in the forest...i'm looking for types of bike that are not crotch rockets..i hate them...sry....that are safe for the open road and not expensive...my plan is to get a few fixer-ups and work on them for a year then go cross country on one...so im fine with older but realiable modles...i would like to get 2 or maybe 3 at the same time and sell one after i work on them all...my goal is to understand how my bike works so that i can ride it better...so in short...looking for types of bikes that are street legal and im not looking for the fastest or anythign but 80mph is about tops for me i think if i want more later i will...and i want to restore it and ride it cross country...help please...

see if you can't find a couple older Honda Shadows. Honda's cruisers aren't usuallly the most advanced/pretty/agile/speedy of the bunch, but they are usually pretty bulletproof mechanically.
