The Aero is just about 520 pounds - I'm going to guess those fenders do nothing for aero-dynamics, despite the name ...
I was surprised to learn the the HD Sportsters are 555 - the front tire is waaay smaller. Which reminds me - two brand new sportsters - two riders - one hit a turkey and flipped, damaged front fork etc. ; the other hit a pot hole and damaged the front rim, fork. Do I kid myself that my larger front tire is sturdier, more stable?

It certainly matters in 1/4 mile acceleration. When your talking over 100lbs difference it's like riding a bike with a passenger then riding it without. Big difference. The S50 also has a higher compression ratio over the M50 givng an edge in horsepower.storysunfolding wrote:I'd believe lighter. Is the weight difference the factor making the speed difference as well?

Forget the Honda 750. If you have a toss up between the M50 and the Honda 750 then go down the middle and get a C50. It looks like the 750 and has the engine and power of the M50. Plus there are more of those in stock because everyone is flocking to the two you mentioned.
I too wanted the M50 and the dealership had one model priced at $6899 for an '07 (I may not be right about the price but it was the MSRP). I got a used '06 C50 for $5799 that had 906 miles.
Now, I assume you are a noobie since you are in the noobie forum. Therefore, I would get an '06 model and pay less. I think dealerships will offer you a good price since they are trying to get rid of them to make room for the '07's. And since we are still in the calender year of 2006, it is not old.
Even if you buy an '07 bike it is going be considered used the day you leave the dealership. What's the difference?! Why pay more for the same results? If the '07 model is new features you are probably too new to riding to notice.

You could always look around for a used marauder. It's the M50's original badge, and looks better to me then this new faux-artsy bike they're putting out.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
