I always thought that cafe racers transitioned into sport bikes. When you look at the setup it's very similar. Hell if it wasn't for the bulging tank, fairing and the mono shock it is a cafe racer...

Cafe Racers took their cues from Road Race bikes of the day.

Cafe Racers were mostly the result of home engineering building the best shoestring budget bikes possible.

The closest thing to the CafeRacer of yesterday year is the Streetfighter scene. Although even that seems to be dying off.
