Off the godsforsaken road again...

I've done some silly miles over the last couple of weeks and noticed today at work that my chain was more or less sitting on the frame.

Easy enough job just tighten the adjusters and thats it as long as I remember to tighten them equally. Idiot proof, totally - no problem.

Yeah right.

So I drag the bike into the back yard and get to it. I notice that as I am tightening it the bolt is bending and nothing seems to be happening. Investigating I find that there isnt a washer on this bolt and the C-ring is being pulled into the jaws on the frame which is destorting the bolt.

Okay then. I am not to concerned - I have a toolbox somewhere in there I have washers. I use a hammer to gently persuade the bolt to straighten slip off the nut and C-ring and whack them back on after the new washer - how easy was that?

Of course the adjusting after that dosnt go totally to plan. The wheel wont move - a couple of kicks isnt getting it to move. "Fair enough" say I determined not to get wound up - "I'll just adjust it on and use that to pull the wheel back and tighten the chain."

Just then when everything is going to plan the bolt on the exhaust side shears through and comes completely away.

Which puts the bike off of the road until I have a) obtained a new pair of these adjustment bolts and b) I've had the rear wheel off...

There arent enough swear words in the English language so I am learning another language.

Assuming I had any to start with Ozzy... I certainlly dont now...
Thought I'd get to it before the people sniggering behind their hands! You know who you are...

The good news is that today I went out there. Armed only with my Haynes, toolbox, WD40 and a random piece of garden furniture I managed to get the rear wheel off - as its supposed to come off (more or less) and have the companion to the offending bolt so I can get on with finding an 'adjustment bolt thingy' that will fit.

Q. Why do haynes Manuals speak in a different language? I spent more time deciphering the instructions than I did following them....

I know this feeling all too well - like taking the FZ over to my dads to bleed the brakes, 20 min job thinks i.

Wrong. Bike off road for 3 days while i waited for 3 days for new brake seals and pads.....

Sux don't it??

Hopefully you'll be able to find something at BMF - I assume you're still going?

Haynes speak some odd technical language that makes me scratch my head and look at the pictures lots... :)

Local salvage yard had a couple of adjustment thingies (I sent Jules with the unbroken one for comparison purposes...)

It took me a little while, and I had to go back to the start a couple of times but the rear wheel is back on and everything is where it should be again (I think)

In a few minutes when I've got up the nerve I'm going to take her out for a run...
