lost oil? temp at 90%?
it looks like i'm not gonna be riding for awhile.....
was in a small street today after riding for about an hour in REALLY hot weather...leaving a stop sign, i notice the rear tire slipping, i pull over....
and guess what? the tempature gague is at like 90 F-in %. and there is F-in hot oil shooting out from under the bike....
had to call a friend to tow it back....WTF...taking it to the dealer tomorrow......
P.S. turned the bike on after about 30 minutes, and it turned on fine....i just hope that the pistons are okay or anything else engine related.....this sucks.
any ideas what happened and what the damaged could be?

Sounds like your oil got hot eh? Is your bike water-colled? If so, better flush out that system and make sure its working properly.
hmmm...idk about it being water cooled. i thought that it had water carbs....but i remember posting another thread here and ppl told me that it does not need water so i assumed it has oil carbs or something.
damn, i really SHOULD know this stuff....but anyway, its an ex500, anyone know for sure?

Ah, dude... I feel bad for you, but you've got to be more in touch with your machine. At least the basics, like reading a manual to know what fluids it contains. I hope this will be easily remedied for you without too much cost or headache.
I'll move this to "Trouble Shooting". Good luck.
Cheers,
Loonette

Well.. actually, don't.
Read your owner's manual and learn how to check your bike's fluid levels periodically.

I'm not even going to hazard a guess as to what water carbs and oil carbs might be. In a nutshell, you have a water cooled engine. That radiator in front of the engine cools the water/antifreeze mix after it has circulated through the engine.Dirtytoes wrote: damn, i really SHOULD know this stuff....but anyway, its an ex500, anyone know for sure?
The cooling system is fairly simple. You have to make sure that there is the right amount of fluid in it. Your water pump must be working in order to keep the fluid circulating through the radiator. Your thermostat must be working to allow the cooling fluid into the radiator, and lastly, your fan must be working in order to draw air through the radiator at low speeds (in town riding). If any of these elements is missing, the engine will overheat and whatever coolant is in the system will boil.
I'm guessing that the fluid that was shooting out of the engine was probably coolant and not oil. If it was oil, you've got serious problems.

LOL
thats genius guys...
i picked up my bike from the dealer today...work done:
1. New Rear Tire...i found out i need a new front too.
2. Chain Adjust and lube
3. tire pressure.
3. Oil Change.
came to $248!....darnit.
anyway, they said that they didn't find ANY oil leaks....that's when i was like WTF....thought about it a but later and i thought that it could've been water mixed w/ anti freeze...
to answer your question, yes it was green...and i'm such an idiot...i remember getting on the ground and touching the fluid to see if it was greesy/oily and it was but just a little bit....since i didn't know i have anti-freeze on my bike.....and because of the fact that it was right under the place where the bike holds oil....the first thing that hit my mind was that, it oil....obviously, i didn't think any further that day.
flynrider, i rode it for 75 miles today to get the slipperiness away from the new tire.....
everything was fine but whenever i stopped at a light or a stop sign or just went at a low speed the temp would go up to right under redline, thats when i'd gas it and start going fast, and the temp went down.....note that this was at night when the wether was cool...so image a hot day?
i never heard the fan go on, and i found a little bucket that hold some green juice similar to the one that was shooting out of the bike....it was maybe less than 1/10 full...
i'm gonna take it back to the dealer tomorrow...what do you guys suggest that i do? what should i buy? ...etc
