flynrider, i rode it for 75 miles today to get the slipperiness away from the new tire.....

everything was fine but whenever i stopped at a light or a stop sign or just went at a low speed the temp would go up to right under redline, thats when i'd gas it and start going fast, and the temp went down.....note that this was at night when the wether was cool...so image a hot day?

i never heard the fan go on, and i found a little bucket that hold some green juice similar to the one that was shooting out of the bike....it was maybe less than 1/10 full...

i'm gonna take it back to the dealer tomorrow...what do you guys suggest that i do? what should i buy? ...etc

Ok, if the temp goes up really high, usually (not always, but USUALLY) first thing that comes to mind (assuming coolant is up to full level) is that the thermostat is busted. If it is, your cooling system with not cycle.

If the thermostat is good, you might have a clogged, gunky radiator - it may need to be flushed.


Edit: I don't think you should hear a fan go on with a water-cooled bike :dunno:


* mind you, I'm speaking from vehicular knowledge, I have no idea if motorcycles have the same parts systems - do they?

This would be an indication that your fan is not coming on. At higher speeds, enough air flows through the radiator to keep the coolant temps down. When your stopped or moving slow, you need the fan to move air through the radiator. I'm not intimately familiar with the setup on the EX500, but it could be a problem with either the fan or the thermostat that controls the fan.

Before suspecting anything, make sure you have enough coolant in the system. That alone can lead to overheating. Once you know the cooling system has plenty of the proper coolant, then see if your temps go up when moving slow or stopped. If it still happens, then the fan or its thermostat would be your prime suspects.

got me some "pro honda 50/50 HP coolant", filled her up and havn't had any problems so far....tho it wasn't a hot day today.

anyway, it's all good now, thx for the help.

lol I don't recall hearing mine turn on, but I've heard DHs Vulcan. Washing my bike yesterday as I'm looking at the fan I'm thinking "I should hear that thing"

it has a fan for sure....it went on a bunch of times during those HOT summer days...and its pretty hard to miss...its prerry big and its right in front of the bike.
