Leaky petcock...

#1 Unread post by Ian522 »

I have a vacuum type petcock on my yamaha, and lately ive noticed the area where the petcock is bolted to the tank is always wet looking. Its not really a serious leak as its not continuously dripping or anything, but if I run my finger across it, there is some gas on my finger.

Could it just be that the petcock needs to be rebuilt or replaced? Or could it be a sign of a problem somewhere else?

There is a gasket between the petcock and gas tank which you can replace if it is leaking there. If the petcock itself is leaking, Yamaha offers rebuild kits for the vacuum petcock. Either fix is not a big job, draining the tank so you can work on it is more of a pain in the butt than working on th petcock. BTW....AC/DC....still rocks !!
