The Roads are steep and a bike that is just 350cc - 20bhp could it it but only with full throtle and half clutch...I ride a 180cc - 15bhp motorcycle on which i have covered enough of distance and have kept it stock condition.High_Side wrote:I agree. Beautiful pics and country that you have there. How did the bikes run at 18,000'?
The Fuel has to be right and Carborater has to be cleaned every 1000kms on such terrain. An oil change is very helpfull for our motorcycle.
Have a friend who is in UK and had done the same terrain on his Yamaha R1 .. The bike is a damn 1000cc and 150+ bhp .....almost 10 times more powerfull that my bike and even he could feel the drop in power when he reached the worlds highest pass...
This is caused mainly due to lack of oxygen and at that altitude the oxygen level is less than 10% of that of normal sea level. Its not only a challenge for a motorcycle but also any human being.
There are other passes but this one is the most special ....
almost 100kms from that spot we have another pass which is knows as
Marsamik La - it stands at 19,000 feet with the road going up at an angle of 70 degrees.... that pass has never been done by any motorcyclist ever with just the power of motorcycle...even R1 could reach only 600mtrs of the final 4 kms.... some guys have done it on Royal Enfield 350cc ... but that too by pushing the bike up ...
That would be my next challenge

Yup, it does back fire where there is a lack of oxygen .... that purly depends on the machine you ride on.High_Side wrote:Great stories. I've only been to 11000' on my VTR and it wouldn't idle and it backfired like mad. I have a feeling that I would be pushing it the last 6-7000' over there
turbo charged version of any bike would zoom past the most of powerfull bikes in this area... reason... the turbo charger actually injects ... rather pushes air in high quantity...

Buddy, we have to plan well in advance for trips like this....say 7 - 10 days of leaves for any of us from Office is almost impossible if we go all of a sudden to our boss for leavesHigh_Side wrote:That would be spectacular, a dream and a challenge. We do work 8-10 hours a day ...as far as i go
I work 12hours... and then get back home... Commuting time + work = 14-15 hours a day
I work on my website for 3-4 hours a day .... rest ... time sleep
When i work so hard, my bosses are happy and do aprove my leaves but i plan my trips atleast 2-3 months in advance so that there are no hassels ...

Its hectic life but we still manage to live our passion atleast for some time out of our daily bussy city life...
if you are planing to come over ... let me know in advance,,, i ll let you know the details of the trip and would post it on my site ....
It would work out great if one of our members from out of India would join in ...
